Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler released his office’s 2024 Annual Report on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The report describes details of the office’s operations last year. A few highlights of the report include:
✓ Building on successes in a challenging environment by maintaining or lowering crime in Orange County in the face of criminal justice reforms making crime fighting more difficult
✓ Prioritization of the prosecution of illegal possession and use of firearms
✓ Proactively disrupting and dismantling major illicit narcotics operations through the use of court-ordered eavesdropping warrants
✓ Remaining at the forefront of arson investigation and prosecution with the joint development of the Hudson Valley Arson and Explosives Task Force, a regional initiative designed to facilitate the criminal prosecution of fire, arson and explosives cases
✓ Enhanced use of the Joint White Collar Crimes Task Force to investigate and prosecute financial crimes, residential contractor fraud, labor law violations, wage theft and other related crimes
✓ Continued partnerships by our Community Affairs Unit and the collaboration with the HV Healthcare System and OC Veterans Suicide Prevention Coalition to address the unacceptable rates of suicide we see in those who sacrificed for us all
✓ Working with our law enforcement partners to find new ways to aggressively combat crime and keep our residents safe
“In 2024, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office continued our most important mandate, to aggressively combat crime in the County, even in the face of increasing challenges,”said District Attorney Hoovler. “Orange County was identified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services as an outlier compared to other counties in the State because of the consistency of our crime statistics, even compared to pre-COVID and pre-criminal justice reform rates. The fact of the matter is crime is going down in Orange County and this is because of the hard work of the prosecutors in my office as well as the dedication of our local law enforcement. We will continue to remain laser focused on our investigation and prosecution of illegally possessed firearms and the sale of narcotics. We will use all available resources to aggressively pursue violent crime and the criminals responsible. The office will remain at the forefront of criminal prosecution by leveraging technology and human ingenuity and hard work tosee to it that the residents of Orange County can remain safe andprosperous.”
