District Attorney Hoovler Announces Indictment in Chester Shooting
John Reilly III Charged with Assault in the First Degree, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Related Charges
Reilly Will be Arraigned in Orange County Court at Later Date
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, May 19, 2025, an indictment was handed up charging John Reilly III, age 48, of Chester, with Assault in the First Degree (two counts, a class B violent felony), Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (a class B violent felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a class C violent felony), Assault in the Second Degree (a class D violent felony), and Criminal Possession of a Firearm (eight counts, a class E felony). Reilly’s arraignment upon the indictment will be scheduled by the Orange County Court. The charges relate to the shooting of a delivery driver at Reilly’s residence in the Town of Chester on May 2, 2025.
Reilly was previously arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Part after his arrest on May 3, 2025 and later released after posting bail, which had been set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 fully secured bond or $750,000 partially secured bond.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
