District Attorney Hoovler: New Jersey Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Port Jervis Robbery
Shaheem Hill Previously Pled Guilty to Robbery in the Second Degree
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Shaheem Hill, 28, of Hamburg, New Jersey, was sentenced in Orange County Court to nine (9) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years post-release supervision relative to his previous guilty plea to Robbery in the Second Degree.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, at 3:45 a.m. on December 30, 2023, Hill and a co-defendant approached an individual on Ball Street in the City of Port Jervis, displayed handguns and forcibly stole property from the victim including a laptop, jewelry and a wallet. After a police investigation which included review of surveillance video and the execution of a judicially-authorized search warrant, the proceeds of the robbery were recovered at the co-defendant’s residence in New Jersey. At the plea proceedings, Hill admitted to forcibly stealing property from the victim and during the course of the robbery displaying what appeared to be a firearm. The co-defendant previously pled guilty and is pending sentence.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Port Jervis Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Hill. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the Newton (NJ) Police Department and Sussex County (NJ) Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance during the investigation.
“Violent criminals are emboldened by the illegal possession of dangerous firearms,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler.“In Orange County we will not stand by and allow violent crime to occur without consequence. We have demonstrated a laser focus on the issue of illegally possessed guns because we see every day the ramifications of the use of these weapons by those with no business carrying a gun. We will not halt our dedicated pursuit of these crimes and the criminals responsible. I thank all of the law enforcement agencies, state, local and across state lines who helped us to close this case and deliver justice on behalf of the citizens of Orange County.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
