District Attorney Hoovler: Six Time Felon Sentenced to Prison for Wallkill Commercial Burglary
John Redner Previously Pled Guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, March 24, 2025, John Redner, 52, of Middletown, was sentenced in Orange County Court to two and one half (2.5) to five (5) years in prison relative to his previous guilty plea to Burglary in the Third Degree. The conviction is Redner’s sixth (6) felony conviction.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on July 12, 2024, just after midnight, an employee of a nearby business saw Redner breaking the window of the Dollar General store in the Town of Wallkill. Redner climbed through the broken window, took several items and fled on bicycle. Responding to the call, members of the Town of Wallkill Police Department observed Redner on a bicycle with a cardboard box containing over two dozen boxes of cigarettes he took from the store. At the plea proceedings, Redner admitted to unlawfully entering the business with the intent to commit a crime therein.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Town of Wallkill Police Department for their investigation and the arrest of the defendant.
“Repeat offenders, who continue to commit crimes despite escalating consequences, are the true drivers of crime,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “We will not tolerate such recidivism and we will seek incarceratory sentences, where appropriate, for those offenders who refuse to stop committing crimes. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to curb such crime through proactive policing and dedicated prosecution. I commend the individuals who saw something and said something and the police for their prompt response which ensured this defendant was held to account.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District AttorneyPeter Fernandez.
This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
