DA Hoovler: Newburgh Man Who Murdered Family Convicted After Jury Trial of All Charges

District Attorney Hoovler: Newburgh Man Who Murdered Family Convicted After Jury Trial of All Charges

Kaliek Goode-Ford Faces up to Life in Prison Without Parole

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Kaliek Goode-Ford, age 35, of Newburgh, was convicted after a jury trial before the Honorable Craig Stephen Brown in the Orange County Court of all charges against him, including Murder in the First Degree (three counts), Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence for having murdered three people, including a nine (9) year old child and attempting to kill a three (3) year old child.  Goode-Ford faces up to life in prison without parole when he is scheduled to be sentenced on March 18, 2025.  Goode-Ford was remanded back to the Orange County Jail without bail following the jury’s verdict.

As alleged at trial, Goode-Ford entered into a residence in the Town of Newburgh and inside, fatally shot a man, his wife and nine-year-old son, and shot a three-year-old boy who survived. After the shooting, Goode-Ford threw the pistol and magazine he used during the murders into the Hudson River.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Town of Newburgh Police Department and New York State Police for their investigation and the arrest of Goode-Ford and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and New York State Police Dive Team for assisting in the investigation.

“The utter viciousness and senseless violence this defendant exhibited in perpetrating these awful crimes is unparalleled,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Words fail to adequately describe the depravity of this defendant’s conduct, but the word “guilty,” as heard repeatedly from the jury today will likely ensure this convicted killer will not be free again to commit acts of violence.  My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of lost in this senseless attack. I thank the Town of Newburgh Police Department and New York State Police for their untiring efforts in bringing this defendant to justice.”

District Attorney Hoovler highly commended Chief Trial Assistant District Attorney Richard Moran and Assistant District Attorney Christine Maggiore who prosecuted the case.

This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. There you go that’s what he wanted.
