District Attorney Hoovler Announces Indictment in Port Jervis Shooting
John Selja Jr. and Andrew Delrio Held in Lieu of Bail
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, John Selja Jr., age 22, of Monroe, and Andrew Delrio, age 26, of Washingtonville, werearraigned in Orange County Court on an indictment charging Selja with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (2 counts), both Selja and Delrio with Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree (2 counts) and Delrio with Hindering Prosecution in the Second Degree for allegedly shooting a man during the course of a robbery in the City of Port Jervis on May 6, 2025.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, Selja and Delrio approached the victim who was in a parked vehicle in the City of Port Jervis at approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 6, 2025. Selja leaned into the vehicle and attempted to take property from the victim, who pushed Selja back. Selja then pulled out a gun and fired at the victim who sustained serious physical injuries. A judicially-authorized search warrant was later executed at Selja’s residence which resulted in the recovery of a firearm that ballistically matched casings recovered from the crime scene. At the arraignment, Selja’s bail was continued and he was remanded back to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, or $1,000,000 fully secured bond or $1,500,000 partially secured bond and is next scheduled for a conference on June 12, 2025. Delrio’s bail was continued and he was remanded back to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail, or $150,000 fully secured bond or $250,000 partially secured bond and is next scheduled for a conference on June 9, 2025
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Port Jervis Policefor their investigation which led to the arrest of the defendants. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the Town of WarwickPolice Department and the Orange County Drug Task Force who aided in the investigation.
“The dangers of the illegal possession and use of firearms are as clear as ever,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Thankfully, the violence allegedly perpetrated in this case did not result in fatal injuries, but the senselessness of the alleged conduct is striking. I commend the prompt law enforcement response that ensured these defendants were taken into custody. We will continue to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of violent crime in Orange County.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
