District Attorney Hoovler Announces Annual DWI Enforcement Training Conference

April Training Event is Co-Sponsored by OCDA and Aims to Enhance DWI Enforcement and Prosecution

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that the District Attorney’s Office has co-sponsored a DWI Training Conference for sworn law enforcement officers, assistant district attorneys, toxicologists, and any other related professionals on Thursday, April 3, 2025.  The event will include presentations by a retired City of Phoenix Police Officer as well as the Associate Director of the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center.  Senior staff members of the District Attorney’s Office will join District Attorney Hoovler in presenting to the attendees.  The training will cover practical issues in DWI enforcement from police encounters with motorists, through chemical testing and the presentation of evidence in court.  All attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions of all speakers to better understand and build their confidence in taking impaired drivers off the roads.

“As District Attorney of Orange County, I have long recognized the significant impacts of cases involving driving while intoxicated or impaired,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “The prosecution of these cases has always been a cornerstone priority of my Office and I appreciate every opportunity to work with local law enforcement to enhance our ability to hold these offenders accountable.  An investment in the training of our dedicated local law enforcement is an investment in the safety of our entire community.  This event is a small but important part of a larger effort by my Office to regularly collaborate with and train law enforcement.  Over the past year we have trained over 650 law enforcement officers on DWI-related issues and we will continue to dedicate the resources necessary to ensure that our police officers remain at the forefront of modern policing.”

“For many years we have provided training to our police officers, probation officers, district attorneys and other professionals as we strive to keep our community and roadways safe by providing this training. Together, with our law-enforcement partners and our district attorney‘s office, our goal is to prevent “NOT ONE MORE!” Not One More person dying or getting seriously hurt in an intoxicated/impaired crash on a roadway here in Orange County,” said John E. Jones, administrator for Orange County STOP-DWI/Traffic Safety at Orange County Emergency Services.
